Background:

The Safe Surgery Checklist (SSC) is a critical tool for enhancing patient safety and reducing surgical complications.
Assessing the impact and adherence to the SSC is crucial for optimizing its effectiveness in clinical settings.
Understanding factors influencing SSC utilization is key to successful protocol implementation.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate patient responses and identify factors associated with the use of the Safe Surgery Checklist.
To compare the utilization and completeness of checklist data before and after protocol implementation.
To determine the impact of SSC implementation on surgical care quality.

Main Methods:

A cohort study was conducted from 2014 to 2016, involving 654 patients across two stages.
Data collection included structured interviews and analysis of 450 checklist assessments from medical records.
Statistical analysis, including odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI), was used to assess associations.

Main Results:

All six evaluated checklist items showed significant differences (p < 0.000) post-implementation.
Checklist presence in medical records increased from 69.9% in stage I to 96.5% in stage II, with improved data completeness.
SSC use was associated with factors including type of surgery (OR=1.7), male gender (OR=1.07), and antibiotic prophylaxis timing.

Conclusions:

The implementation strategy for the Safe Surgery Checklist was effective in small and medium-sized healthcare institutions.
The SSC was associated with improved patient responses, data availability, and data completeness.
The findings support the relevance of the SSC in enhancing surgical care quality and patient safety.
