    Summary

Alveolar microlithiasis was diagnosed using clinical and X-ray findings. Bronchoalveolar lavage and endopulmonary cytograms proved valuable for morphological diagnosis of this rare lung disease.

    Area of Science:

    • Pulmonology
    • Radiology
    • Cytopathology

    Background:

    • Alveolar microlithiasis is a rare lung disease characterized by the presence of diffuse microliths within the alveoli.
    • Diagnosis can be challenging due to its rarity and often subtle presentation.

    Observation:

    • A case of alveolar microlithiasis is presented, initially diagnosed via clinical presentation and chest X-ray.
    • The study focuses on the diagnostic utility of specific cytological techniques.

    Findings:

    • Bronchoalveolar lavage yielded material suitable for morphological examination.
    • Endopulmonary cytogram analysis provided crucial diagnostic information for alveolar microlithiasis.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the importance of considering alveolar microlithiasis in differential diagnoses.
    • Endopulmonary cytograms and bronchoalveolar lavage are effective tools for diagnosing alveolar microlithiasis.
    • Further research into diagnostic modalities for rare lung diseases is warranted.
