Background:

  • Limited data exists on donor-site morbidity associated with facial fat grafting.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the incidence of fat harvest-site complications.
  • To identify risk factors for these complications.
  • To describe management strategies for donor-site morbidity.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of 416 patients undergoing fat harvesting for facial grafting (2010-2019).
  • Analysis of patient demographics and clinical data.
  • Statistical analysis using a two-tailed T-test (p<0.05 significance).

Main Results:

  • Overall harvest-site complication rate was 5.5% in 416 patients.
  • Low body mass index was significantly associated with higher complication rates (p=0.003).
  • No correlation found between complications and gender, age, or harvest location.

Conclusions:

  • Autologous fat transfer for facial rejuvenation demonstrates low donor-site morbidity.
  • Minor harvest-site complications are more prevalent in patients with low BMI.
  • Management strategies led to consistent improvement in donor-site issues.
