Three-dimensional compressed sensing time of flight MR angiography (3D-CS-TOF) is effective for managing WEB device embolizations. This fast and reliable imaging technique aids in the follow-up of treated aneurysms.
Area of Science:
- Neuroimaging
- Interventional Neuroradiology
- Vascular Imaging
Background:
- The WEB device is used for endovascular embolization of intracranial aneurysms.
- Optimal imaging modalities for WEB device management and follow-up are crucial.
- Three-dimensional compressed sensing time of flight MR angiography (3D-CS-TOF) has not been previously evaluated for WEB device management.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the efficacy of 3-tesla 3D-CS-TOF in the management and follow-up of WEB device implantations.
- To assess the role of 3D-CS-TOF in visualizing aneurysms and parent vessels post-WEB device placement.
Main Methods:
- Retrospective analysis of 73 aneurysms in 69 patients treated with the WEB device.
- Comparison of morphological parameters and embolization results using 3D-CS-TOF, CTA, and DSA.
- Assessment of inter- and intra-reader agreement for aneurysm size measurements.
Main Results:
- High occlusion rates (83.6%) were observed, with low rates of neck remnant (9.6%) and recurrence (6.8%).
- Aneurysm size, patient age, and vessel tortuosity negatively impacted visibility on 3D-CS-TOF.
- 3D-CS-TOF findings demonstrated perfect agreement with DSA and CTA, indicating high diagnostic accuracy.
Conclusions:
- 3D-CS-TOF is a reliable, fast, and easy imaging method for managing WEB-assisted embolizations.
- This technique can serve as an effective alternative for follow-up imaging after WEB device implantation.
- Further studies can confirm the long-term efficacy and utility of 3D-CS-TOF in this context.
