Summary

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the performance of adults on the Sustained Auditory Attention Ability Test (SAAAT).
  • To establish reference values for adult performance on the SAAAT.
  • To compare adult SAAAT performance with existing pediatric data.

Main Methods:

  • A sample of 30 healthy adults (18-30 years) with normal hearing and no attention complaints participated.
  • Participants underwent standard audiological evaluations including pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry, and tympanometry.
  • The Sustained Auditory Attention Ability Test (SAAAT) was administered to all participants.

Main Results:

  • Adults exhibited significantly lower scores for inattention and impulsivity errors compared to children (p < 0.001).
  • Mean SAAAT total error scores and decreased vigilance scores were significantly lower in adults than in children (p < 0.0003).
  • Adults demonstrated superior performance across all measured variables of the SAAAT.

Conclusions:
