Background:

  • Urinary bladder diverticulum resection has traditionally been performed via open surgery.
  • Robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery (RAHDR) offers a potentially less invasive alternative.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the surgical outcomes of robot-assisted urinary bladder diverticulum resections.
  • To compare these results with existing data on optimal diagnosis and therapy.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 11 male patients who underwent RAHDR between October 2018 and March 2020.
  • Primary endpoints included blood loss, operation time, complications (Clavien-Dindo), hospital stay, residual urine, urine extravasation, quality of life, and micturition satisfaction.

Main Results:

  • Mean surgery duration was 212 minutes, and mean hospital stay was 7.6 days.
  • No urine extravasation was detected postoperatively; complications were not measurable by Clavien-Dindo.
  • Mean postoperative hemoglobin decrease was 1.61 g/dL, with significantly reduced residual urine (25 ml).

Conclusions:

  • Robot-assisted urinary bladder diverticulum resection is an effective and gentle procedure.
  • This minimally invasive technique allows for simultaneous procedures like prostate adenoma enucleation.
  • Financial disadvantages exist due to inadequate representation in the German DRG system.
