Student beverage consumption and school water fountain use in Mexico

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe beverage consumption patterns and school water fountain usage among students in the National School Feeding Program (PNBE).

Main Methods:

  • Descriptive, cross-sectional study with a mixed-methods approach.
  • Involved 617 public secondary school students (ages 11-16).
  • Assessed water and sugary drink intake, water fountain use, and barriers/facilitators to water consumption.

Main Results:

  • Average daily intake was 568.9 ml of water and 143.4 ml of sugary drinks, with no significant gender difference.
