    Background:

    • Ectropion and entropion are common eyelid malpositions causing significant patient discomfort.
    • The lateral tarsal strip technique is a surgical option for correcting these conditions.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the postoperative outcomes and complication rates of the lateral tarsal strip technique.
    • To assess the effectiveness of this surgical method in correcting ectropion and entropion.

    Main Methods:

    • A study involving 43 eyes of 33 patients (average age 79) undergoing the lateral tarsal strip technique.
    • Patients with pre-existing ectropion (23 eyes) or entropion (20 eyes) were included; 35 cases were involutional.
    • Exclusion criteria included patients who had undergone alternative surgical procedures.

    Main Results:

    • No perioperative or postoperative complications were observed in the entropion group.
    • Successful correction and symptom relief were achieved in 91.3% of entropion cases and 95% of ectropion cases.
    • Eyelid malposition persisted in only two entropion cases and one ectropion case.

    Conclusions:

    • The lateral tarsal strip technique is a safe and highly effective surgical option for eyelid malposition.
    • Over 90% of patients experienced successful correction of ectropion and entropion.
    • The majority of patients reported satisfaction and relief from preoperative symptoms.
