Summary
Diffuse upper respiratory hemangiomas are rare and do not resolve spontaneously. Superselective embolization offers a new effective treatment for these recalcitrant laryngotracheal hemangiomas.
Area of Science:
- Vascular malformations
- Otolaryngology
- Interventional Radiology
Background:
- Diffuse upper respiratory hemangiomas are rare, distinct from common congenital subglottic hemangiomas.
- These lesions are often resistant to standard treatments and do not resolve on their own.
Observation:
- A case of a recalcitrant laryngotracheal hemangioma was managed.
- The treatment utilized superselective embolization, a technique for head and neck vascular lesions.
Findings:
- Superselective embolization proved effective in controlling the obstinate hemangioma.
- This interventional technique offers a successful management strategy.
Implications:
- Superselective embolization is a viable therapeutic option for laryngeal hemangiomas.
- This approach expands treatment possibilities for rare respiratory tract vascular lesions.
