Abstract:
Retraction: "Ras-ERK1/2 signaling promotes the development of uveal melanoma by downregulating H3K14ac," by Yaping Li, Weixuan Sun, Dajun Sun, Dexin Yin, J Cell Physiol. 2019; 16011-16020: The above article, published online on February 15, 2019 in Wiley Online Library (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/jcp.28259), has been been retracted by agreement between the journal's Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Gregg Fields, and Wiley Periodicals LLC. The retraction has been agreed following an investigation based on allegations raised by a third party. Several flaws and inconsistencies between results presented and experimental methods described were found, the editors consider the conclusions of this article to be invalid. The authors collaborated in the investigation initially, but were not available for a final confirmation of the retraction.
Insights
This study on uveal melanoma development has been retracted due to significant flaws. The findings regarding Ras-ERK1/2 signaling and H3K14ac are considered invalid by the editors.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Molecular Biology
- Epigenetics
Context:
- Uveal melanoma is a rare but aggressive eye cancer.
- Understanding the molecular mechanisms driving its development is crucial for effective treatment strategies.
- The Ras-ERK1/2 signaling pathway and histone modifications like H3K14ac have been implicated in cancer progression.
Purpose:
- To investigate the role of Ras-ERK1/2 signaling in uveal melanoma development.
- To explore the potential link between this pathway and histone acetylation, specifically H3K14ac.
- To elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying uveal melanoma pathogenesis.
Summary:
- The article proposed that Ras-ERK1/2 signaling promotes uveal melanoma by downregulating H3K14ac.
- This study has been retracted due to identified flaws and inconsistencies.
- The editors deemed the conclusions invalid following an investigation into allegations.
Impact:
- The retraction invalidates previous conclusions regarding Ras-ERK1/2 signaling and H3K14ac in uveal melanoma.
- This highlights the importance of rigorous data verification and reproducibility in scientific research.
- Further research is needed to clarify the actual role of these pathways in uveal melanoma.

Somatic Spinal Reflexes
One of the most well-known somatic spinal reflexes is the stretch reflex, which is activated by the sudden stretching of a muscle. This reflex involves the activation of specialized sensory receptors called muscle spindles, which are located in the muscle tissue and detect changes in the length and speed of muscle contractions. When a muscle is suddenly...

Relaxation of Skeletal Muscles
When an action potential reaches the axon terminal, it depolarizes the membrane and opens voltage-gated sodium channels. Sodium ions enter the cell, further depolarizing the presynaptic membrane. This depolarization causes voltage-gated calcium channels to open....
