Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate Brazilian nurses' perceptions of their work environment in relation to hospital accreditation.
  • To determine the association between hospital accreditation and key aspects of the nursing work environment.

  • A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 3 hospitals in Brazil.
  • Direct care nurses with at least 6 months of experience participated, excluding those on leave during data collection.
  • The Brazilian version of the Revised Nursing Work Index was used to assess the nursing work environment.

  • Hospital accreditation was significantly associated with improved nurse-physician relationships (OR=0.266), organizational support (OR=0.256), control over practice (OR=0.229), and autonomy (OR=0.227).

  • Hospital accreditation positively influences nurses' perceptions of autonomy, nurse-physician relationships, control over practice, and organizational support.
  • Implementing recommendations from certification programs can enhance the nursing work environment for nurse managers.
