Summary

Complex cataract surgery with iris manipulation increases postoperative inflammation and intraocular pressure (IOP) spikes. Non-complex cases showed fewer complications overall, highlighting risks associated with advanced phacoemulsification techniques.

Background:

Phacoemulsification is a common cataract surgery technique.
Complex cases and iris manipulation may influence complication rates.
Quantifying these risks is crucial for patient safety.

Purpose of the Study:

To compare intraoperative and postoperative complications.
Focus on complex phacoemulsification with iris manipulation versus without.
Compare against non-complex phacoemulsification cases.

Retrospective review of 5772 phacoemulsification cases (2014-2017).
Exclusion criteria applied for intraoperative and postoperative outcomes.
Statistical analysis using regression modeling for complication rates and IOP.
