  • A cross-sectional study involving 1620 college students (mean age 21.3 years, 897 males, 723 females).
  • Assessment of physical activity (PA) levels, sitting time, body composition (including fat percentage and lean body mass), cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), muscular endurance (ME), and blood tests.
  • Statistical analysis to determine prevalence, odds ratios, and correlations.

Main Results:

  • Significant prevalence of risk factors: 15.2% not meeting PA guidelines, 33% sedentary, 13.3% obese, 10.7% low CRF, 36.8% poor ME, 33.7% dyslipidemia, 5.9% prediabetes.
  • Obesity and poor CRF were more common in males; inactivity was more prevalent in females.
  • Poor CRF strongly associated with obesity in both sexes (ORs 5.2-9.4). Sitting time correlated with body composition, and ME showed inverse correlations in respective sexes.

Conclusions:

  • Despite general activity, college students face substantial health risks.
  • Sedentary behavior and poor fitness are linked to adverse body composition in both male and female students.
  • Interventions to enhance fitness and decrease sedentary time are crucial for college student health promotion and chronic disease prevention.
