Background:

  • The second patient was diagnosed as retrovirus human immunodeficiency virus type 2 (HIV-2) positive.

Findings:

  • Both patients displayed abnormal hematological parameters related to blood viscosity during acute phases.
  • Therapeutic interventions successfully manipulated these haemorrheological parameters.
  • A reduction or normalization of blood viscosity correlated with clinical improvement and enhanced angiographic findings.

Implications:

  • Blood viscosity is a significant factor in retinal vasculitis pathogenesis and progression.
  • Monitoring and managing haemorrheological parameters can be a key therapeutic strategy.
  • The association with HIV-2 in one case highlights the importance of considering infectious etiologies in complex vasculitis presentations.
