Abstract:
Retraction: "Ras-PI3K-AKT signaling promotes the occurrence and development of uveal melanoma by downregulating H3K56ac expression," by Yaping Li, Dajun Sun, Weixuan Sun, Dexin Yin, J Cell Physiol. 2019; 16032-16042: The above article, published online on 15 February 2019 in Wiley Online Library (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/jcp.28261), has been retracted by agreement between the journal's Editor in Chief, Prof. Dr. Gregg Fields, and Wiley Periodicals LLC. The retraction has been agreed following an investigation based on allegations raised by a third party. Several flaws and inconsistencies between results presented and experimental methods described were found, the editors consider the conclusions of this article to be invalid. The authors collaborated in the investigation initially, but were not available for a final confirmation of the retraction.
Insights
This study on uveal melanoma has been retracted due to significant flaws. The original findings regarding Ras-PI3K-AKT signaling and H3K56ac expression are now considered invalid.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Molecular Biology
- Epigenetics
Context:
- Uveal melanoma is a rare but aggressive form of eye cancer.
- The Ras-PI3K-AKT signaling pathway is implicated in various cancers.
- Histone modifications, such as H3K56ac, play crucial roles in gene regulation.
Purpose:
- To investigate the role of Ras-PI3K-AKT signaling in uveal melanoma development.
- To explore the relationship between this signaling pathway and H3K56ac expression.
Summary:
- The article suggested that Ras-PI3K-AKT signaling promotes uveal melanoma by downregulating H3K56ac.
- An investigation revealed critical flaws and inconsistencies in the study's methodology and results.
- The journal editors deemed the article's conclusions invalid, leading to its retraction.
Impact:
- The retraction invalidates previous conclusions regarding the molecular mechanisms of uveal melanoma.
- This highlights the importance of rigorous scientific review and reproducibility.
- Further research is needed to clarify the role of Ras-PI3K-AKT signaling and H3K56ac in uveal melanoma.

Somatic Spinal Reflexes
One of the most well-known somatic spinal reflexes is the stretch reflex, which is activated by the sudden stretching of a muscle. This reflex involves the activation of specialized sensory receptors called muscle spindles, which are located in the muscle tissue and detect changes in the length and speed of muscle contractions. When a muscle is suddenly...

Relaxation of Skeletal Muscles
When an action potential reaches the axon terminal, it depolarizes the membrane and opens voltage-gated sodium channels. Sodium ions enter the cell, further depolarizing the presynaptic membrane. This depolarization causes voltage-gated calcium channels to open....
