Stroke patients had a 3.64 times higher risk of developing dementia compared to non-stroke patients.

Acupuncture treatment in stroke patients was associated with a significantly lower probability of dementia (adjusted HR 0.49).

Dementia incidence was higher in males.

Conclusions:

A significant association exists between stroke and dementia, particularly in males.
Acupuncture treatment may decrease the risk of dementia in stroke patients.
Limitations include lack of data on lifestyle, stroke severity, and specific acupuncture methods.
