Area of Science:

  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Reconstructive Surgery

Background:

  • Pelvic chondrosarcomas necessitate surgical intervention.
  • Challenges exist in pelvic reconstruction and preventing visceral herniation post-surgery.

Observation:

  • A case of a large atypical cartilaginous tumor of the pelvis was presented.
  • The tumor required a novel surgical resection technique.

Findings:

  • An anterior hemipelvectomy was performed for tumor resection.
  • Reconstruction utilized an iliac crest graft.
  • The procedure achieved satisfactory surgical margins and minimized morbidity.

Implications:

  • This case demonstrates a unique and effective surgical approach for pelvic tumors.
  • The technique yielded good functional outcomes.
  • It offers a potential solution for pelvic reconstruction challenges.
