Abstract:
Retraction: "Nimotuzuma restrains proliferation and induces apoptosis in human osteosarcoma cells by regulation of EGFR/PI3K/AKT signal pathway," by Meihan Liu, Jingzhe Zhang, Hang Dong, Wenjun Wang, J Cell Physiol. 2019; 20879-20887: The above article, published online on 18 April 2019 in Wiley Online Library (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/jcp.28693), has been retracted by agreement between the journal's Editor in Chief, Prof. Dr. Gregg Fields, and Wiley Periodicals LLC. The retraction has been agreed following an investigation based on allegations raised by a third party. Several flaws and inconsistencies between results presented and experimental methods described were found, the editors consider the conclusions of this article to be invalid. The authors collaborated in the investigation initially, but were not available for a final confirmation of the retraction.
Insights
This study on nimotuzumab in osteosarcoma cells has been retracted due to significant flaws. The findings regarding cell proliferation and apoptosis are considered invalid following an investigation.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Cell Biology
- Molecular Biology
Context:
- Osteosarcoma is a primary bone cancer with limited treatment options.
- Targeted therapies are being investigated to improve patient outcomes.
- The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway is implicated in various cancers.
Purpose:
- To investigate the effects of nimotuzumab on human osteosarcoma cells.
- To explore the role of the EGFR/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in nimotuzumab's action.
- To assess nimotuzumab's potential to restrain proliferation and induce apoptosis.
Summary:
- The article investigated nimotuzumab's effects on osteosarcoma cell proliferation and apoptosis.
- It proposed regulation of the EGFR/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway as the mechanism of action.
- However, the study has been retracted due to identified flaws and inconsistencies.
Impact:
- The retraction invalidates the reported conclusions regarding nimotuzumab's efficacy and mechanism in osteosarcoma.
- This highlights the importance of rigorous scientific validation and peer review.
- Further research is needed to clarify nimotuzumab's role, if any, in osteosarcoma treatment.

Somatic Spinal Reflexes
One of the most well-known somatic spinal reflexes is the stretch reflex, which is activated by the sudden stretching of a muscle. This reflex involves the activation of specialized sensory receptors called muscle spindles, which are located in the muscle tissue and detect changes in the length and speed of muscle contractions. When a muscle is suddenly...

Relaxation of Skeletal Muscles
When an action potential reaches the axon terminal, it depolarizes the membrane and opens voltage-gated sodium channels. Sodium ions enter the cell, further depolarizing the presynaptic membrane. This depolarization causes voltage-gated calcium channels to open....
