Background:

Acquired neurological disorders of communication require specialized speech therapy.
Treatment effectiveness is often measured by duration and discharge rates.
Implementing standardized indicators can potentially optimize care pathways.

Purpose of the Study:

To compare speech therapy treatment time and discharge reasons for communication disorders.
To evaluate the impact of treatment indicators on service delivery.
To analyze data from two periods: before and after indicator implementation.

Main Methods:

Retrospective cohort study design.
Analysis of 129 medical records from a medium complexity care service.
Comparison of data from before and after the implementation of treatment indicators.

Main Results:

Mean speech therapy duration decreased from 10.9 to 7.8 months post-indicator implementation.
A statistically significant difference in average therapy time and discharge reasons was observed.
72 out of 89 users continued treatment after indicator implementation with regular reassessments.

Conclusions:

Treatment indicators implementation reduced average speech therapy duration for communication disorders.
There was an increased percentage of speech therapy discharges.
These findings suggest improved efficiency in a Brazilian medium complexity care setting.
