Anakinra, an IL-1 receptor antagonist, achieved complete healing in two patients with severe pyoderma gangrenosum (PG). This treatment shows promise for recalcitrant PG cases, especially those with comorbidities.

Observation:

  • Two patients with recalcitrant PG and multiple comorbidities were treated with anakinra.
  • Both patients had failed multiple conventional therapies.
  • Anakinra treatment resulted in 100% ulcer healing in both cases.

Findings:

  • Anakinra effectively induced complete remission in severe, treatment-resistant pyoderma gangrenosum.
  • The safety profile of anakinra appeared favorable in patients with significant comorbidities.
  • Complete healing was achieved without significant adverse events.

  • Anakinra represents a potential therapeutic option for refractory pyoderma gangrenosum.
