Intergenerational differences exist in basic public health service utilization among the floating population. Both new and old generations show low utilization, highlighting an urgent need for targeted improvements in public health services.
Area of Science:
- Public Health
- Sociology
- Health Services Research
Background:
- The equalization of basic public services is a key policy objective.
- Utilization of basic public health services by the floating population is a critical indicator for assessing service equalization.
- Understanding intergenerational differences in service utilization is essential for targeted interventions.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate intergenerational disparities in basic public health service utilization among the floating population.
- To identify factors influencing these disparities between older and newer generations of migrants.
Main Methods:
- Utilized data from the 2017 national health and family planning dynamic monitoring survey on the floating population.
- Employed Pearson Chi-square test, bi-grouping logistic regression, and Poisson regression for analysis.
Main Results:
- Significant differences were observed in establishing health records between the new (36.42%) and old (34.96%) generations (P<0.01).
- The new generation received more general health education (74.07%) than the old generation.
- The old generation had higher utilization of chronic disease prevention education, while the new generation accessed other health education types more frequently (all P<0.05).
Conclusions:
- Despite generational differences, overall utilization of basic public health services remains low for both the new and old floating population generations.
- There is a critical need to enhance public health service utilization across the entire floating population, considering generational specificities.
