Abstract:
We present a case of a young healthy female who developed recurrent cranial wound infections after a traumatic injury, the etiologic organism finally identified as Mycoplasma hominis, an uncommon and difficult to isolate bacterium.
Insights
Recurrent cranial wound infections in a young woman were caused by Mycoplasma hominis. This uncommon bacterium is challenging to detect, highlighting diagnostic difficulties in infectious disease cases.
Area of Science:
- Infectious Diseases
- Microbiology
- Case Reports
Background:
- Cranial wound infections can arise after trauma.
- Identifying the causative agent is crucial for effective treatment.
- Certain bacteria, like Mycoplasma hominis, present diagnostic challenges.
