This systematic review examined how collective efficacy is measured in soccer. Findings reveal limited psychometric validation in existing instruments, hindering a full understanding of this key team attribute.
Area of Science:
- Sports Psychology
- Team Dynamics
- Performance Analysis
Background:
- Collective efficacy, a group's shared belief in its capability, is crucial for sports team dynamics.
- It influences individual motivation, collective effort, and persistence in soccer players.
- Understanding its assessment is vital for improving team performance.
Purpose of the Study:
- To systematically review how collective efficacy is assessed in soccer.
- To identify indicators, attributes, and psychometric properties of instruments used.
- To evaluate the validation processes of these assessment tools.
Main Methods:
- Systematic review following PRISMA guidelines.
- Searched multiple databases using keywords in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
- Included 22 original scientific articles on collective efficacy in soccer.
Main Results:
- Identified five instruments (FCEQ, CEQS, CEI, CEC, CEQsoccer) assessing technical-tactical and psychological attributes.
- Most studies focused on content validity and reliability (internal consistency).
- Limited evidence of comprehensive psychometric validation for collective efficacy instruments in soccer.
Conclusions:
- Existing instruments for measuring collective efficacy in soccer lack robust psychometric validation.
- This limitation hinders a complete understanding of collective efficacy in the sport.
- Further research is needed to develop and validate reliable assessment tools.
