  • Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate zinc metabolism in patients with extensive psoriasis.
  • To compare plasma zinc levels and urinary zinc excretion after an oral zinc load in psoriatic patients versus healthy controls.

Main Methods:

  • An oral zinc loading test was administered to 12 patients with extensive psoriasis and 11 healthy volunteers.
  • Plasma zinc concentrations and urinary zinc excretion were measured.

    • Patients with extensive psoriasis may have impaired plasma zinc uptake or altered zinc distribution following oral zinc supplementation.
    • These findings suggest a potential role for zinc dysregulation in the pathophysiology of psoriasis.
    • Further research is warranted to explore the clinical implications of zinc metabolism alterations in psoriasis management.
