This report details a rare case of epithelioid sarcoma, a type of soft tissue tumor, found primarily in the lung. This marks the fourth documented instance of this rare pulmonary neoplasm.

  • Primary pulmonary epithelioid sarcoma is exceedingly rare, with only three prior cases documented.
  • This case presents a unique instance of epithelioid sarcoma originating in the lung.

Observation:

  • A 65-year-old male smoker with no asbestos exposure was diagnosed with a primary lung tumor.
  • Histological examination revealed epithelioid and spindle-shaped cells with rhabdoid features.
  • Immunohistochemistry confirmed the diagnosis, showing positivity for vimentin, SMA, CD34, EMA, and loss of BAF47/INI1.

Findings:

  • The patient underwent thoracoscopic partial lung resection.
  • Post-operative imaging ruled out other primary lesions or metastatic disease.
