Norton's Theorem01:14

Norton's Theorem

965
Norton's theorem is a fundamental principle stating that a linear two-terminal circuit can be substituted with an equivalent circuit, which comprises a current source (ⅠN) in parallel with a resistor (RN). Here, ⅠN represents the short-circuit current flowing through the terminals, and RN stands for the input or equivalent resistance at the terminals when all independent sources are deactivated. This implies that the circuit illustrated in Figure (a) can be exchanged with the...

Detection of Black Holes01:10

Detection of Black Holes

2.3K
Although black holes were theoretically postulated in the 1920s, they remained outside the domain of observational astronomy until the 1970s.
Their closest cousins are neutron stars, which are composed almost entirely of neutrons packed against each other, making them extremely dense. A neutron star has the same mass as the Sun but its diameter is only a few kilometers. Therefore, the escape velocity from their surface is close to the speed of light.
Not until the 1960s, when the first neutron...

Schwarzschild Radius and Event Horizon

2.3K
No object with a finite mass can travel faster than the speed of light in a vacuum. This fact has an interesting consequence in the domain of extremely high gravitational fields.
The minimum speed required to launch a projectile from the surface of an object to which it is gravitationally bound so that it eventually escapes the object’s gravitational field is called the escape velocity. The escape velocity is independent of the mass of the object. Merging the idea of escape...

Electromagnetic Fields01:30

Electromagnetic Fields

2.4K
Electric fields generated by static charges, often referred to as electrostatic fields, are characteristically different from electric fields created by time-varying magnetic fields. While the former is a conservative field, implying that no net work is done on a test charge if it goes around in a complete loop in the field, the latter is, by definition, not a conservative field; net work is done, and it is proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux.
However, the observation of...

Divergence and Curl of Electric Field01:25

Divergence and Curl of Electric Field

6.5K
The divergence of a vector is a measure of how much the vector spreads out (diverges) from a point. For example, an electric field vector diverges from the positive charge and converges at the negative charge. The divergence of an electric field is derived using Gauss's law and is equal to the charge density divided by the permittivity of space. Mathematically, it is expressed as

Area of Science:

  • Computer Science
  • Network Security
  • Cryptography

Background:

  • Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are vulnerable to security threats.
  • Common attacks include black hole and wormhole attacks, which disrupt network performance.
  • Existing protocols struggle to effectively mitigate these specific threats.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To propose and evaluate a novel security protocol for MANETs.
  • To address the challenges posed by black hole and wormhole attacks.
  • To enhance network performance metrics like packet delivery ratio and delay.

Main Methods:

  • Developed a new protocol, SWBAODV, integrating scalable-dynamic elliptic curve cryptography.
  • Implemented and tested the protocol against black hole (BAODV) and wormhole (WAODV) attacks.
  • Analyzed network performance, including packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay, energy consumption, and routing overhead.

Main Results:

  • SWBAODV demonstrated a significant improvement in packet delivery ratio (51.38% higher than BAODV/WAODV).
  • End-to-end delay was drastically reduced to 63.2.
  • Energy consumption was reduced by 73.52% compared to attacked cases and 69.35% compared to BAODV/WAODV.

Conclusions:

  • The SWBAODV protocol offers robust protection against black hole and wormhole attacks in MANETs.
  • The proposed method effectively enhances network security and performance.
  • This research contributes a valuable solution for securing mobile ad hoc networks.
