Alternative pathways for the development of lymphoid structures in humans

Secondary lymphoid organs (SLOs) in humans lacking lymphoid tissue inducer (LTi) cells can develop independently of LTi cells, particularly in the gut-draining abdomen and appendix. This suggests alternative mechanisms for SLO formation.

- Tertiary lymphoid organs may also develop independently of LTi cells.
- These findings challenge the universal requirement of LTi cells for all lymphoid organogenesis in humans.
