Mean velocity of segmental luminal area change (Seg-VLAC) effectively predicts left ventricular function recovery after coronary artery occlusion. Seg-VLAC also estimates myocardial necrosis extent seven days post-reperfusion.

  • Assessing regional left ventricular function post-myocardial infarction is crucial for predicting outcomes.
  • Traditional methods for evaluating myocardial damage can be invasive or lack real-time assessment capabilities.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the predictive value of two-dimensional echocardiography (2DE) parameters for regional left ventricular function recovery and myocardial necrosis.
  • To compare systolic and diastolic function parameters in predicting infarct severity and recovery.

Main Methods:

  • Nine dogs underwent 3-hour LAD occlusion followed by 7-day reperfusion.
  • 2DE was used to measure percent segmental fractional area change (Seg-FAC%) and mean velocity of segmental luminal area change (Seg-VLAC).

    • Seg-VLAC measured after 3 hours of occlusion predicts 7-day recovery of regional left ventricular function.
    • Seg-VLAC at 7 days post-reperfusion estimates the regional transmural extent of myocardial necrosis.
