Delayed SARS-CoV-2 Clearance in Patients with Obesity

Obesity, defined by a body mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m² or higher, was linked to slower SARS-CoV-2 clearance in COVID-19 patients. Higher BMI independently predicted delayed virus clearance by day 14.

- Assessing BMI in COVID-19 patients, even those not severely ill, is recommended.
- Obesity represents a significant factor influencing COVID-19 recovery and viral shedding.
