Autoantibodies against human endogenous retrovirus K (HERV-K) are elevated in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). In RA, these autoantibodies target citrullinated HERV-K Env protein, linking HERV-K immunity to pathogenic citrullination in the disease.
