Work

Work is a fundamental concept of mechanical engineering and has many applications. Understanding how work is calculated and the different types of work can help us better understand physical processes and provide insights into complex problems.
Work is defined as the result of a force acting on an object, causing it to move along the line of action of force. It is also defined as the process of transferring energy through the application of force on an object, resulting in its displacement.

Background:

COVID-19 pandemic necessitated widespread adoption of telecommuting.
Circuit Breaker measures in Singapore mandated work from home for many employees.
The Singapore Police Force experienced prolonged telecommuting during this period.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the effects of prolonged telecommuting on Singapore Police officers.
To examine impacts on productivity, satisfaction, work-life effectiveness, safety, stress, and social connectedness.
To identify factors influencing officer well-being during remote work.

Main Methods:

A study was conducted among Singapore Police officers undertaking prolonged telecommuting.
Data collected on productivity, telecommuting satisfaction, work-life effectiveness, safety perceptions, stress, and social support.
Statistical analysis was used to evaluate the effects of telecommuting.

Main Results:

Prolonged telecommuting did not significantly affect overall satisfaction with remote work.
Officers with caregiving responsibilities reported significantly lower satisfaction compared to non-caregivers.
