Summary

A rare case of recurrent extradural cavernous hemangioma was found at the 7th thoracic vertebra. This pure epidural tumor exhibited unusual dumbbell-like growth, highlighting diagnostic and treatment considerations for rare spinal lesions.

Area of Science:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Spinal Oncology
  • Vascular Malformations

Background:

  • Extradural cavernous hemangiomas are rare spinal tumors.
  • Purely epidural primary hemangiomas are distinct from secondary vertebral extensions.
  • Recurrence presents unique clinical challenges.

Observation:

  • A case of recurrent extradural cavernous hemangioma at the T7 level is detailed.
  • The tumor demonstrated unusual dumbbell-like morphology.
  • Growth occurred through an intervertebral foramen.

Findings:

  • The lesion was a pure epidural cavernous hemangioma.
  • Radiological features suggested dumbbell-like growth.
  • Recurrence pattern was noted.

Implications:

  • Discusses diagnostic challenges of rare spinal tumors.
  • Highlights importance of considering extradural hemangiomas.
  • Informs treatment strategies for recurrent spinal lesions.
