We developed a new method to measure photon pair spectra using time-correlated interference. This technique is ideal for studying photon-photon interactions in atomic systems.
Area of Science:
- Quantum optics
- Atomic physics
Background:
- Characterizing photon pairs is crucial for quantum technologies.
- Previous methods lack efficiency for specific atomic interactions.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present a novel technique for measuring photon pair joint spectra.
- To enable the study of photon-photon interactions in atomic arrays.
Main Methods:
- Utilizing time-correlation beat notes of interfering nondegenerate photon pairs.
- Implementing a temporal analog of the Ghosh-Mandel effect and time-resolved Hong-Ou-Mandel interference.
- Employing single atomic species interaction for photon characterization.
Main Results:
- Successfully characterized photon pairs from cavity-enhanced parametric down-conversion.
- Measured a bandwidth of approximately 5 MHz and frequency separation of ~200 MHz.
- Focused on photon pairs near the D1 line of atomic Rubidium (Rb).
Conclusions:
- The described technique offers a robust method for photon pair spectral analysis.
- This technique is well-suited for investigating predicted photon-photon interactions in subwavelength atomic arrays.
- The results demonstrate the feasibility of characterizing specific photon pairs for atomic interaction studies.
