Distributed Loads: Problem Solving01:21

Distributed Loads: Problem Solving

840
Beams are structural elements commonly employed in engineering applications requiring different load-carrying capacities. The first step in analyzing a beam under a distributed load is to simplify the problem by dividing the load into smaller regions, which allows one to consider each region separately and calculate the magnitude of the equivalent resultant load acting on each portion of the beam. The magnitude of the equivalent resultant load for each region can be determined by calculating...

Frequency response analysis in electrical circuits provides vital insights into a circuit's behavior as the frequency of the input signal changes. The transfer function, a mathematical tool, is instrumental in understanding this behavior. It defines the relationship between phasor output and input and comes in four types: voltage gain, current gain, transfer impedance, and transfer admittance. The critical components of the transfer function are the poles and zeros.

Membrane lipids such as phosphatidylinositol (PI) are precursors for several membrane-bound and soluble second messengers. Specific kinases phosphorylate PI and produce phosphorylated inositol phospholipids. One such inositol phospholipids are the  phosphatidylinositol-4,5 bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P2], present in the inner half of the lipid bilayer. Upon ligand binding, GPCR stimulates Gq proteins to turn on phospholipase Cꞵ. Activated phospholipase Cꞵ cleaves PI(4,5)P2 and...

Consider an angioplasty system featuring a catheter equipped with a turbine, a critical tool for removing plaque deposits from coronary arteries. This intricate medical device operates using a circuit model reminiscent of a dual-node RLC circuit powered by a current-controlled voltage source.
To unravel the complexities of this system, nodal analysis is employed, a powerful technique founded on Kirchhoff's current law (KCL), which remains valid for phasors. AC circuits can effectively be...

Transformers in Distribution System

192
Transformers in distribution systems can be broadly categorized into distribution substation transformers and other distribution transformers. They are crucial for stepping down high transmission voltages to levels suitable for distribution and end-user applications.
Distribution substation transformers come in various ratings and typically use mineral oil for insulation and cooling. To prevent moisture and air from entering the oil, some transformers use an inert gas like nitrogen to fill the...

Sequence Networks of Rotating Machines

A Y-connected synchronous generator, grounded through a neutral impedance, is designed to produce balanced internal phase voltages with only positive-sequence components. The generator's sequence networks include a source voltage that is exclusively in the positive-sequence network. The sequence components of line-to-ground voltages at the generator terminals illustrate this configuration.
Zero-sequence current induces a voltage drop across the generator's neutral impedance and other...

Background:

  • The IEEE 802.15.4 standard is crucial for Internet of Things (IoT) communication, utilizing Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) for medium access.
  • Resource-constrained IoT devices are susceptible to cyber attacks, particularly denial-of-service (DoS) attacks like the greedy behavior attack.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To propose a novel method for identifying greedy nodes that monopolize network bandwidth.
  • To enhance the fairness and security of Low Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (LR-WPANs) operating under IEEE 802.15.4.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of parameter differences between greedy and legitimate nodes within the CSMA/CA protocol.
  • Development and implementation of a threshold-based mechanism for detecting selfish node behavior.

Main Results:

  • The proposed threshold mechanism achieved a high detection efficiency of 99.5% in simulations.
  • The method effectively distinguishes greedy nodes from legitimate ones by analyzing CSMA/CA parameter deviations.

Conclusions:

  • The developed threshold mechanism is a highly effective solution for detecting greedy nodes in IoT networks.
  • This approach contributes to improving the robustness and fairness of wireless communication protocols like IEEE 802.15.4.
