Clinical Research Consultation

Background:

Research ethics consultation is established in medical research but underexplored in nursing.
Understanding its role in nursing is essential for ethical research practices.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze the status and key issues of research ethics consultation for nurse researchers.
To provide insights into the practical application of ethical guidelines in nursing studies.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of integrated clinical research consultation records.
Data collected from a Japanese university hospital between 2018-2019.
Focus on consultations specifically for nursing studies (n=101).

Main Results:

Out of 101 nursing consultations, 43 (42.6%) addressed research ethics.
The primary concerns were compatibility with ethical guidelines (28 cases, 65%) and application of ethics review (12 cases, 28%).

Conclusions:

Research ethics consultation is a relevant service for nurse researchers in Japan.
Further international studies are needed to understand the broader relevance of ethics consultation in promoting proper nursing research.
