Abstract:
On the basis of an explication of the experimental method of control for causal order and spuriousness, nonexperimental alternatives are explored. Controlling for both causal order and spuriousness, the partial correlation approach is explained, particularly as developed in structural equation models. Advantages and disadvantages in comparison with the experimental method are discussed.
