The female breast is a hemispheric projection of variable size positioned anterior to the pectoralis major and serratus anterior muscles. A fascia layer composed of dense, irregular connective tissue connects it to these muscles.

Summary

Intermammary breast cancer, though rare, can occur in the chest area between the breasts. This case report highlights its infrequent occurrence and standard breast cancer management strategies.

Background:

Breast cancer is the most prevalent malignancy among females globally.
The intermammary region is an uncommon site for breast cancer development.

Purpose of the Study:

To report a rare case of intermammary breast cancer.
To discuss the diagnostic and management considerations for this rare presentation.

Main Methods:

A case study of a 61-year-old female presenting with intermammary swelling.
Diagnostic workup included ultrasound and core needle biopsy.
Treatment involved radiotherapy and hormonal therapy.

Main Results:

Ultrasound revealed a hypoechoic, microlobulated mass with internal vascularity.
Core needle biopsy indicated invasive ductal carcinoma.
Pathological lymph nodes were detected in the right axilla.

Conclusions:

Intermammary breast cancer is an infrequent finding, distinct from common breast cancer locations.
Management strategies for intermammary breast cancer are consistent with those for conventional breast cancer.
