Area of Science:

  • Orthopedics
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Medical Genetics

Background:

  • Scapula duplication is an extremely rare congenital anomaly.
  • Complete duplication of the scapula has not been previously documented in medical literature.

Observation:

  • Two pediatric patients presented with complete duplication of the right scapula.
  • Both cases were associated with additional congenital malformations.

Findings:

  • Surgical intervention involved fusing the duplicated scapulae in both patients.
  • The surgical outcomes were reported as good, indicating successful management.

Implications:

  • This case series expands the understanding of rare skeletal malformations.
  • Highlights the potential for surgical correction in managing scapula duplication.
  • Suggests further investigation into the genetic and developmental factors underlying this condition.
