    Summary

    Corynebacterium parvum therapy showed encouraging clinical results for malignant disease, particularly in lung cancer patients. Immunological data revealed increased B-lymphocyte activity despite overall depressed lymphocyte reactivity.

    Background:

    • Pilot studies suggested Corynebacterium parvum (C. parvum) efficacy in malignant disease.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the clinical efficacy and immunological effects of C. parvum therapy in patients with carcinoma of the bronchus.
    • To compare immunological responses between patients receiving C. parvum and healthy volunteers.

    Main Methods:

    • A prospective, randomized controlled trial involving patients with carcinoma of the bronchus.
    • Treatment group received C. parvum; control group did not.
    • Comprehensive assessments included radiological, haematological, biochemical, and immunological measurements.

    Main Results:

    • Encouraging clinical progress was observed in patients treated with C. parvum.
    • Marked elevation of C. parvum antibody titre was detected.
