    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the prevalence of islet cell antibodies in long-term insulin-treated diabetes patients.
    • To assess islet cell function in patients positive for islet cell antibodies.

    Main Methods:

    • Analysis of islet cell antibody status in 121 long-term insulin-treated diabetic patients.
    • Measurement of C-peptide levels to evaluate residual pancreatic beta-cell function in antibody-positive individuals.

    Main Results:

    • Islet cell antibodies were detected in 17 (14%) of the patients.
    • The duration of diabetes ranged from 5 to 45 years.
    • In 12 out of 13 tested patients, C-peptide levels were undetectable, indicating cessation of islet cell function.
