Abstract:
Quantitative studies of visceral nociception have been limited due to the lack of an easily controlled, reproducible stimulus. Distension of hollow viscera is painful in humans. The device described here allows control over a phasic distending stimulus satisfactory for quantitative neurophysiologic, behavioral or pharmacologic studies.
