Background:

  • Striae albae, commonly known as stretch marks, are a frequent occurrence in multiparous and obese women.
  • The histological changes within striae albae are not fully understood, particularly concerning dermal matrix composition.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the histological and ultrastructural characteristics of collagen and elastic fibers in striae albae.
  • To compare the dermal structure of stretch marks with adjacent healthy skin.

Main Methods:

  • Skin specimens from striae albae and healthy skin were obtained during lipectomy.
  • Histological analysis using paraffin and thin sections was performed.
  • Immunofluorescence was used to assess collagen type I deposition.
