Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching I: Assessment and Diagnosis01:24

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching I: Assessment and Diagnosis

2.0K
The nursing process provides a clinical decision-making framework for patients and families to establish and implement a personalized care plan. Since part of the nurse's duties is to teach patients, the steps of the nursing process are the most effective way to approach instruction. The nursing process and the teaching-learning process are inextricably linked.
It is critical to determine the patient's learning needs during the assessment. Determination of learning needs compounds data...

Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:

Patient-centered Care01:13

Patient-centered Care

2.5K
Patient-centered care involves delivering care beyond inpatient hospitalization. Reflective practice can enhance a patient-centered approach. Reflective practice is a process of reasoning that considers all aspects of the present situation, including practicalities, learning from personal practice, and consideration of patient needs. Patients appreciate care decisions made while considering their input. Involving the patient in their care provides the patient with a sense of contribution rather...

Critical Thinking I

4.1K
Critical thinking helps decision-making and allows nurses to recognize barriers to success and find solutions to possible issues. It helps to brainstorm and implement ideas to achieve goals. Critical thinking helps acknowledge and state workflow inefficiencies while improving management techniques. Nurses understand the value of critical thinking and look for fellow nurses with critical thinking skills to upgrade their professional standards. Critical thinking can advance a nurse's career...

Nursing Diagnosis01:22

Nursing Diagnosis

3.3K
Following assessment, a nursing diagnosis is the next step in the nursing process. It begins after the nurse has collected and recorded the patient data. The purpose of diagnosing is to identify how the client responds to actual or potential health processes, identify factors that bestow or that cause health problems, the etiologies, and identify resources or strengths the individual, group, or community can draw on to prevent or resolve problems.
The nursing diagnosis focuses on evidence-based...

Area of Science:

  • Medical Education
  • Clinical Reasoning
  • Cognitive Science

Background:

  • Illness scripts represent experienced clinicians' mental models for recalling condition-specific knowledge.
  • Novice clinicians often face difficulties in developing and applying robust illness scripts.
  • Effective clinical decision-making relies on well-formed illness scripts.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To address the challenges novice clinicians face in developing illness scripts.
  • To introduce a novel framework for enhancing clinical knowledge acquisition.
  • To improve the integration of disease mechanisms into clinical decision-making models.

Main Methods:

  • Development of the Integrated Illness Script and Mechanism of Disease (IIS-MOD) map framework.
  • Framework designed to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical application.
  • Focus on structuring knowledge for easier recall and application by learners.

Main Results:

  • The IIS-MOD map framework provides a structured approach to learning clinical concepts.
  • Facilitates the integration of underlying disease mechanisms with clinical presentations.
  • Aimed at improving the development of illness scripts in novice clinicians.

Conclusions:

  • The IIS-MOD map framework offers a promising educational tool for medical trainees.
  • Enhancing illness script development can lead to improved clinical decision-making.
  • Integrating disease mechanisms is crucial for robust clinical reasoning.
