Insights
Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) negatively impacts the cardiovascular system, increasing risks for patients with existing conditions like hypertension. Early suspicion is crucial for managing COVID-19 patients and preventing poor outcomes.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Infectious Diseases
- Public Health
Background:
- Cardiovascular system involvement in COVID-19 is a significant area of research.
- COVID-19 patients with comorbidities, particularly cardiovascular diseases, face higher morbidity and mortality.
- Potential cardiovascular complications of COVID-19 include arrhythmia, myocarditis, and thromboembolic events.
Purpose of the Study:
- To elucidate the interactions between COVID-19 and the cardiovascular system.
- To outline the implications for clinical decision-making.
- To inform public health strategies regarding COVID-19 and cardiovascular health.
Main Methods:
- Review of existing scientific literature on COVID-19 and cardiovascular complications.
- Analysis of reported associations between COVID-19, comorbidities, and patient outcomes.
- Synthesis of findings to illustrate the impact on clinical practice and public health.
Main Results:
- COVID-19 is associated with increased cardiovascular complications.
- Comorbidities like hypertension and acute coronary syndrome exacerbate risks in COVID-19 patients.
- Understanding these interactions is vital for patient management.
Conclusions:
- COVID-19 poses significant negative consequences for the cardiovascular system.
- A high index of suspicion for cardiovascular involvement is necessary in COVID-19 patients.
- Prompt recognition and management of unusual presentations can improve prognosis.
Background:
Cardiovascular system involvement in coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has gained great interest in the scientific community.
Main Body:
Several studies reported increased morbidity and mortality among COVID-19 patients who had comorbidities, especially cardiovascular diseases like hypertension and acute coronary syndrome (ACS). COVID-19 may be associated with cardiovascular complications as arrhythmia, myocarditis, and thromboembolic events. We aimed to illustrate the interactions of COVID-19 disease and the cardiovascular system and the consequences on clinical decision as well as public health.
Conclusions:
COVID-19 has negative consequences on the cardiovascular system. A high index of suspicion should be present to avoid poor prognosis of those presenting with unusual presentation.

Exercise and Cardiovascular Response
Light to moderate physical activity initiates a series of interconnected responses in the body. The heart rate modestly increases in anticipation of the workout, followed by widespread vasodilation as oxygen consumption by skeletal muscles increases. This results in decreased peripheral resistance, increased capillary blood flow, and accelerated...
