This study developed a hospital performance assessment model using the Input, Process, Output, Control, and Context (IPOCC) approach. The model offers a comprehensive framework for evaluating hospital quality and patient satisfaction.
Area of Science:
- Healthcare Management
- Quality Improvement
- Health Services Research
Background:
- Assessing hospital performance is crucial for enhancing service quality and patient satisfaction.
- A practical model is needed to systematically evaluate healthcare delivery.
- The Input, Process, Output, Control, and Context (IPOCC) framework provides a structured approach for performance evaluation.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop and present a practical model for assessing hospital performance.
- To utilize the IPOCC approach for a comprehensive evaluation framework.
- To identify key factors within each IPOCC dimension for hospital assessment.
Main Methods:
- A mixed-method research design was employed.
- Qualitative data involved 27 experts selected through snowball sampling until data saturation.
- Quantitative data were collected from 334 hospital managers using random sampling based on Cochran's formula.
Main Results:
- The developed hospital evaluation model comprises 5 dimensions and 20 factors across Input, Process, Output, Control, and Context.
- Statistical analysis indicated an acceptable model fit, with a chi-square/degree of freedom ratio of 1.966.
- Goodness-of-fit indices (CFI, GFI, IFI) were acceptable, and the SRMR was 0.1130.
Conclusions:
- The IPOCC-based performance assessment model effectively evaluates hospital processes and their outputs.
- The model encompasses all service areas, including control, context, and traditional resources (physical, human, financial, equipment).
- Implementation of this model can lead to improved hospital operations and outcomes.
