    Abstract:

Deepwater macroscopic hydrophytes in Lake Tahoe were found to a depth of 500 ft. They consist of algae, mosses and liverworts. Most were concentrated at depths from 200 to 350 ft. Only Chara occassionally invaded areas as shallow as 20 ft. Other deepwater hydrophytes were restricted to depths below 50 ft.

    Tonicity in Plants

    31.5K
Plant cells maintain appropriate osmotic balance in extreme conditions. For instance, plants in dry environments store water in vacuoles, limit the opening of their stoma, and have thick, waxy cuticles to prevent unnecessary water loss. Some species of plants that live in salty environments store salt in their roots. As a result, water osmosis occurs in the root from the surrounding soil.
