A Tropical Hammock on the Miami (Florida) Limestone--A Twenty-Five-Year Study
Ecology
|September 8, 2021
Abstract:
Data from two studies 25 years apart support the idea that the hammock, composed of West Indian tropical flora, is the climatic climax in southern Florida. In the absence of fire during the 25-year period, the pineland surrounding the hammock was invaded by the tropical species. Lysiloma bahamensis acted as the invader tree. The succession occurred well within the 25-year period.

Posttensioned Masonry Walls
256
Post-tensioned masonry walls use high-strength steel rods or flexible tendons to enhance the strength and efficiency of masonry structures. These elements are securely anchored to the foundation and extend vertically either within the cores of the masonry units or between the masonry wythes. The construction process involves building the wall with these tensioning elements in place and allowing the mortar to fully cure.
Following the curing process, the tensioning begins. Steel rods are...

Habitat Fragmentation
19.1K
Habitat fragmentation describes the division of a more extensive, continuous habitat into smaller, discontinuous areas. Human activities such as land conversion, as well as slower geological processes leading to changes in the physical environment, are the two leading causes of habitat fragmentation. The fragmentation process typically follows the same steps: perforation, dissection, fragmentation, shrinkage, and attrition.
