Functional Classification of Joints01:09

Functional Classification of Joints

5.5K
Functional Classification of Joints
The functional classification of joints is determined by the amount of mobility between the adjacent bones. Joints are functionally classified as a synarthrosis or immobile joint, an amphiarthrosis or slightly moveable joint, or as a diarthrosis, a freely moveable joint. Fibrous and cartilaginous joints can be functionally classified as either synarthroses  or amphiarthroses, whereas all synovial joints are classified as diarthroses.

Steps for Free-Body Diagram01:22

Steps for Free-Body Diagram

2.1K
When it comes to studying the behavior of objects in mechanics, one of the most important tools available is the free-body diagram. Consider a simple example of a system of two blocks coupled by a massless string over a frictionless pulley. Block 1 is sliding over a table pulled by block 2 as block 2 falls under gravity.
To find the acceleration of the system, it is first necessary to calculate the net force on the system. In order to accomplish this, a free-body diagram can be created to...

Area of Science:

  • Sports Science
  • Biomechanics
  • Kinesiology

Background:

  • Traditional movement analysis methods often overlook external influences, particularly in dynamic environments like combat sports.
  • Improving athletic performance, especially in judo, requires understanding complex movements influenced by multiple factors.
  • Existing techniques for movement analysis lack specificity for dynamic, interactive sports.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce a novel method, the Extraction for Successful Movement (XSM) method, for analyzing complex movements.
  • To identify key factors influencing successful throwing techniques in judo by analyzing pre-throw postures.
  • To validate the XSM method using real-world data from elite judo competitions.

Main Methods:

  • Observing video scenes of successful judo throws to define candidate factors.
  • Utilizing the Extraction for Successful Movement (XSM) method to analyze movement characteristics.
  • Employing statistical analyses, including chi-squared (χ2) tests and residual analysis, to determine factor significance.

Main Results:

  • The XSM method successfully identified significant factors contributing to successful judo throws.
  • Analysis revealed specific pre-throw postures and biomechanical elements crucial for technique execution.
  • Statistical validation confirmed the predominance and importance of identified key factors.

Conclusions:

  • The Extraction for Successful Movement (XSM) method provides a robust framework for analyzing complex sports movements.
  • Understanding key pre-throw factors can significantly enhance judo training and performance.
  • This approach offers valuable insights for skill acquisition in combat sports and other dynamic physical activities.
