Masking and Demasking Agents01:19

Masking and Demasking Agents

2.9K
EDTA titrations may necessitate masking and demasking agents to temporarily protect a particular metal ion in a mixture from the EDTA reaction. These agents facilitate the sequential analysis of the metal ions by forming stable complexes with some—but not all—metal ions during certain steps.
There are many masking agents, such as cyanide, fluoride, triethanolamine, thiourea, and 2,3-bis(sulfanyl)propan-1-ol (formerly 2,3-dimercapto-1-propanol), with the masking agent chosen based on...

Blinding01:11

Blinding

3.5K
Blinding is a commonly used method of not telling participants which treatment a subject is receiving. Blinding is a critical part of a randomized control trial or RCT. It reduces the bias that affects the results. In an RCT, blinding is used in the form of a placebo. A placebo effect occurs when untreated subjects falsely believe they have received the treatment and report improved symptoms. A placebo or a dummy treatment is administered to subjects to negate the bias caused by such an effect.

Dark Triad and Person Perception01:29

Dark Triad and Person Perception

35
Person perception is influenced by both external behaviors and the observer’s internal characteristics, including personality traits. Individuals with dark personality traits, comprising psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism — collectively known as the dark triad – exhibit manipulative and exploitative tendencies in social contexts. These traits affect how they perceive others and how they are perceived. The Role of Dark Personality Traits in Person PerceptionBlack et...

Second Uniqueness Theorem01:16

Second Uniqueness Theorem

1.2K
Consider a region consisting of several individual conductors with a definite charge density in the region between these conductors. The second uniqueness theorem states that if the total charge on each conductor and the charge density in the in-between region are known, then the electric field can be uniquely determined.
In contrast, consider that the electric field is non-unique and apply Gauss's law in divergence form in the region between the conductors and the integral form to the...

Color Vision01:24

Color Vision

942
Color perception begins in the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. Two main theories explain how colors are seen: the trichromatic theory and the opponent-process theory. The trichromatic theory, proposed by Thomas Young in 1802 and extended by Hermann von Helmholtz in 1852, suggests that color vision is based on three types of cone receptors in the retina. These cones are sensitive to different but overlapping ranges of wavelengths corresponding to red, blue, and green.

Aliasing01:18

Aliasing

297
Accurate signal sampling and reconstruction are crucial in various signal-processing applications. A time-domain signal's spectrum can be revealed using its Fourier transform. When this signal is sampled at a specific frequency, it results in multiple scaled replicas of the original spectrum in the frequency domain. The spacing of these replicas is determined by the sampling frequency.
If the sampling frequency is below the Nyquist rate, these replicas overlap, preventing the original...

Area of Science:

  • Cryptography
  • Image Processing
  • Information Security

Background:

  • Traditional secret sharing using Absolute Moment Block Truncation Coding (AMBTC) suffers from inconvenient stego image management due to indistinguishable images.
  • Pixel expansion in existing schemes leads to increased storage and bandwidth requirements.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a secret sharing scheme that addresses the management and pixel expansion issues of AMBTC-based methods.
  • To enhance the security and practicality of visual secret sharing by creating visually distinct stego images.

Main Methods:

  • The proposed scheme employs multiple cover images to ensure visual differentiation of stego images.
  • It integrates traditional Visual Secret Sharing (VSS) to eliminate pixel expansion.
  • Images are compressed using the AMBTC algorithm, obtaining quantization levels and bitmaps.

Main Results:

  • Stego images are made visually distinct, reducing suspicion and increasing security.
  • Pixel expansion is eliminated by fusing VSS, optimizing storage and bandwidth.
  • Lossless bitmap recovery is achieved at a (k,k) threshold, with slight quality degradation solely from compression.

Conclusions:

  • The developed scheme effectively manages stego images and overcomes pixel expansion.
  • It offers improved security and efficiency compared to traditional AMBTC-based secret sharing methods.
  • Experimental results validate the scheme's effectiveness and advantages.
