Neonatal giant dural sinus ectasia: a multimodality imaging approach

Summary

This case report describes a rare condition called dural venous sinus ectasia in a newborn. The condition involves the formation of a large vascular pool within the dural sinuses and is often linked with thrombosis. The authors used multiple imaging techniques to evaluate the neonate, including prenatal ultrasound, postnatal transcranial ultrasonography, cranial CT, and MRI. These studies revealed a large lesion in the dural sinus confluence and the presence of arteriovenous malformations. The case is unique because it highlights the importance of using multiple imaging modalities to accurately diagnose this condition, which is often misdiagnosed as more common pathologies. The authors suggest that this approach should be considered in similar cases to improve diagnostic accuracy.
